Healthier Beaver Scouts make news for the Fresh Produce Consortium
19 December 2008
Stories about childhood health issues continue to hit the headlines. Now, Bray Leino is working with the Scout Association to tackle the issue head-on with a two-year sponsorship of the Beaver Scouts' Healthy Eating Badge on behalf of the Fresh Produce Consortium's Eat in Colour campaign.
The new Eat in Colour Healthy Eating Badge helps to teach 6 and 7 year-old Beavers practical and fun ways to enjoy a balanced diet incorporating plenty of fruit and veg. Just a few months into the campaign, the badge has already received fantastic coverage in national media (including The Times, Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail, Daily Express, The Sun, BBC Breakfast and Radio 5 Live), and over 20,000 of the Healthy Eating activity packs required to complete the badge have been requested by Beaver leaders across the UK in what the Scout Association has termed an unprecedented rate of pick-up.
The packs continue to fly out of the Scout Association doors and a further 20,000 have already been ordered to fulfil ongoing requests.
Eat in Colour and Bray Leino have also enjoyed great success this spring with the football-themed campaign, Eat in Colour United. Working with Premiership dietitians, Eat in Colour United encouraged school-age players to eat the same healthy diets as their favourite footballers, resulting in widespread TV, radio and print coverage.
